Last day

So TODAY is my last day before leaving for college and of course, I'm spending part of it here at coffee. Tom isn't working today but I saw him yesterday and got a goodbye hug. Val made me a mint mocha, on her. I'm going to buy one of the coffee shop t-shirts so I can represent out in Minnesota. It is rather poignant. I'm the only one upstairs at the moment, and I find it appropriate that I get to completely dominate the place in the last hours of my reign here....

P.S. one last update on cast members! Val is "girl with brown hair who is always there with gair." Steve is "new guy who apparently exists." I don't know how to spell her name, but I believe "new girl with accent" is Jana (pronounced YON-uh)

Until fall break!

Beanie at the Hotel

This isn't at a coffee shop, but Beanie does have other adventures worthy of being documented, I think...

suggestions for a new name for bearista?

since that's already the name of the starbucks bear, i think we should come up with another one. any thoughts?

so far, i've got:

-café bearé
-mocha
-red eye

a tad lame, but i'll try to think of some others.

-carolyn

dwindling.

it's weird to think that soon we, those of us who post here and those of us who frequent chcc, will all be gone, off to college except for breaks and summers. macrina and i have already left, alex is leaving in september, shelby will be a senior...

i hope the coffee will live on. i mean, i know it will exist without our presence, but in the current state of chestnut hill's economy, you never what might be next to disappear.

-carolyn

update.

once again, the cast of characters has beem updated. thank you, alex, for discovering that 'blonde haired girl who is awesome' is actually named 'Metea.'

absent.

dear chcc -

for some time now i have been quite absent from your scene! work has taken over my life and i hit up the many starbucks that dot downtown philadelphia or bonte. each time i order my (now decaf) iced vanilla lattes i am a little ashamed.

it is time for me to get back to my roots!

love,

carolyn

A new tradition

When visiting Gettysburg, Macrina and I decided that we would do one of those über-cool things where we take a stuffed animal to every coffee shop we ever go to, and take a picture with it. We scavenged her house and found a small bear. She wants to name it Bearista, but the Starbucks bear already has that name. And I think the name needs to be much more original and cute.

But WHATEVER about the name. Bearista's first coffee house is...RAGGED EDGE in Gettysburg!

an update on cast members

Employees: The brown-haired girl who's always there with Gair. The cool girl with short hair, I believe her name is Alli. The blond-haired girl who is awesome, gives me a creative greeting each time I come in, and frequently offers whipped cream in my lattes. A new guy whom I never see, but apparently exists?

As for regulars, there's the woman with the long blond hair who always wears black and heeled boots. The 2 old guys who chill downstairs and are kind of weird (but nice), one of them has huge glasses. The guy who Iz and I concluded was from Yemen. Stink-eye woman. A few others whose distinctive qualities I'll try to figure out later.

Dead guy hasn't been around in a while and neither has German boy????

I haven't posted in a while

but here's a picture I took the last time I was at the coffee shop.

I've been so busy this summer that I've hardly had time to go there. I miss it!

Blahhhh

At the moment, I'm sitting upstairs on the windowsill. I've seen a few people walk by outside (Ms. Nagle is crossing Germantown Ave. as I type), but no one in here. I miss the days when one could go to the coffee shop and almost inevitably run into somebody else there. It's annoying because I can no longer depend on this place for a social life! Maybe it's just a summer thing and I'm the only one who has nothing else to do. Back to writing thank-you notes.

Back

It is May 25th (memorial day), and Alex, Christina, and I are in the coffee shop. It is glorious.

woot

I was worried that Tom had left Coffee Co., but he's here today. That's lovely. He said he'd been in hiding.

Also, it must be noted that a) the parking lot was repaved a while ago, if people missed out on that...and b) they no longer give you tickets! Apparently it's now all free for shoppers, but the guys are still there. I don't know what they do, exactly. They just patrol the lot and, according to one of them, "find out who's parking and going downtown for the day." So I'm not entirely sure what the policy is as far as how long you're allowed to be parked there....

Mango has moved about 2 blocks down the Avenue.

Also it seems that a couple girls who worked at coffee a couple years ago have returned? Interesting.

Those are the updates I can think of for now. Stay tuned!

New Guy!

There's a new guy working at CHCC! I don't know his name yet, but when we went in the other night he was there and took my coffee order and was soooo hot! Haha. But seriously. He makes Ben's absence bearable, so far.

Missing home a little :)

Today I was in New York City craving mocha. There was a Starbucks every half-a-block, and I did enter two of them for coffee on two separate occasions, but each time I found myself wishing I could just head upstairs after picking up my cup and sit by the big window of the Coffee Shop, looking out at Germantown Avenue, or watching the people who frequent CHCC who even now feel so familiar to me. I can't wait to sit there again when I come home for Thanksgiving.

so

Hilary's birthday party last week was tres awesome because basically Shelby and I spent the whole time talking to Ben about life and everything. He even showed us how to make an expresso shot!

Bad news is that Ben says he may not be at the coffee shop for much longer. I hope "much longer" translates to AFTER I graduate...

ahh

I was eating the $2.09 toast today and I cursed myself for getting a latte, because I didn't have tea to drink with my jam and bread.

Note from a Yalie

I miss the coffee shop! I haven't found any lattes yet that compare. I miss the taste so much. Send my love
